On behalf of our extraordinary volunteer committee, we
would like to thank Southeast Texas for many years of
generous support that has allowed us to grow our event
over the course of three decades!
The first ball was held back in 1989 and was called
Spindletop Ball. The ball has been held in several unique
venues and gone through many transformations, and since
the event’s inception, we have raised more than
$3.5 million for the American Cancer Society. What
makes this so special is two-fold: 1) Your support allows
ACS to fund cancer research grants to cutting-edge
scientists, and 2) ACS provides free local services to
patients with a cancer diagnosis. The research we fund has
helped turn many cancer patients into cancer survivors
by discovering new treatment options, early detection,
targeted therapies and even cures.
This year’s theme symbolizes the wonderful people of our
area perfectly. Southeast Texans possess a warmth, charm
and sense of comradery not commonly found in other
places. We stick together through the good times and the
bad, through celebrations, hurricanes and even a devastating
illness like a cancer diagnosis. With your support, we will
continue to relentlessly pursue the preventions, treatments
and cures that all of us want to find.
We are so grateful to the many loyal champions of this
one-of-a-kind event and we welcome you to be part of this
For more than a 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
